In 1955 when the polio virus became available there was dancing in the streets. It put an end to iron lungs that were needed to help a person breath because their chest muscles were paralyzed from polio. The polio vaccination was a huge success.
Wearing masks now is important because not enough people have been vaccinated. The delta variant is highly transmissible and is now spreading. Some people who have been vaccinated can be infected with the delta variant and may still be contagious and spread the virus to others.
The delta virus is more easily spread than the original COVID-19.
Getting vaccinated and wearing a mask is an extra layer of protection to prevent a fall surge.
