Henry County Democrat 2026 Caucus
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Henry County Democrats will hold their Caucus on Monday, Feb. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 902 S. Walnut Street in Mount Pleasant. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and will close promptly at 7 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate must arrive before the doors close.
Caucus night is one of the most direct ways local voices help shape the future of our party and our community. It’s a time for neighbors to come together, discuss shared priorities, elect precinct and county representatives, and begin building a platform that reflects real needs and lived experience.
Iowa, and Henry County, are facing serious challenges. Public education outcomes continue to decline, many rural communities are under economic strain, and our county has experienced a steady loss of population. These are not abstract concerns. They affect our schools, our workforce, access to health care, and whether young families see a future here in Henry County.
What we are seeing locally mirrors a broader national moment, as communities across the country ask hard questions about opportunity, fairness, and the direction of our democracy.
At the same time, there is real momentum within the Democratic Party in Iowa. Recent state legislative wins show that when people show up, organize, and stay engaged, progress is possible, even in difficult political environments. That progress begins at the local level, with everyday people willing to take part in the process.
The Democratic caucus is open, welcoming, and rooted in conversation rather than spectacle. Whether you are a longtime Democrat, newly registered, or simply someone who cares about the future of this community, your presence matters.
Democracy is not a spectator sport. It is built locally, face to face, and choice by choice.
We hope to see you on February 2.
Respectfully,
Kasey Conrad, Henry County Democrats
