On Friday, Jan. 22, our country should be in mourning. Flags should fly at half-mast. Why, you ask? That is the date in 1973 our Supreme Court legalized the killing of children in the womb, at any stage of development, for any reason, in the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton rulings.
If you have children or grandchildren, you know the preciousness of each and every life. And yet, in some states, medical attention is denied a child that miraculously survives an abortion. We are a nation that fines and jails people for killing unborn endangered animals yet cheers the ‘right' of a mother to kill her unborn child.
If we honored each unborn baby lost to abortion since 1973 with a moment of silence, we would be silent for over 100 years. That is a staggering realization! 60 million unborn babies have died legally in America! The heartache caused by abortion and the effect of the loss of all these unborn lives is incalculable. For when a child is lost through abortion, it is not just a single life, but generations that might have come forth from that life.
Every life is created in the image and likeness of God and is worth living. Let us have compassion for the unborn child; let us meet the needs of women facing unplanned pregnancies; let us encourage adoption whereby the child lives and the mother is spared the heartbreak of knowing she killed her unborn child.
Biological fact: Life begins at conception! Let us work to elect people who acknowledge the sacredness of life in the womb. We cannot get back the lives we have lost through abortion, but we can see to it that no more babies lose their lives through 'choice.”
Let this be the generation that ends abortion!
