Troubled about the election
Dear Editor:
Republicans, please help me out here. Now that we've completed the election, where over half of voters selected Trump, I feel troubled about ethics.
When I attended the United States Air Force Academy, all cadets operated under an Honor Code: "We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does." If we consider the prior term of about-to-be President Trump, it can easily be argued that he violated all three components of that Honor Code.
Fact check organizations attribute roughly twenty thousand lies to him during his term of office. Most recently, he claimed that FEMA disaster relief funds were stolen and misused.
Trump claimed that the 2020 election was "stolen," even after dozens of lawsuits his lawyers initiated were found to be without credibility. He himself attempted to steal the election by pressuring several state officials to change the vote outcome. His Trump organization was found guilty of cheating on taxes. To say nothing of his 34-count felony conviction for unethical conduct.
It baffles me how any voter of ethical character could have cast their vote for Trump, knowing that you cannot trust what he says. How can we put our national security into the hands of someone whom we cannot trust? I used to think of the Republican party as the one of high ethical standards. Am I mistaken? I welcome any Republicans who voted for Trump to reply.
