The Union covered Washington Town Hall fairly
I attended the Town Hall May 6. All those in the room were represented by Miller-Meeks. The majority of the organizers live in Washington County.
I am not sure where KCRG thought Lynette Iles, Linda Boston and Julie Gentz are from, but they live in the city of Washington and are leaders in Indivisible Washington Co. The people in the audience were nearly all Washington Co. residents, not liberal infiltrators from Johnson Co.
Not all of the panel live in Washington Co. but when you have a panel you bring in experts on the topic, which was proposed cuts to the VA and Medicaid with an eye on where Miller-Meeks will vote on the issues.
Life-long resident of Washington, Harold Frakes, shared his family’s history of military service and his positive care at the VA. Nurses currently working at the VA told us what the cuts would mean for their patients, who currently receive care from the best medical system in the US. Educators spoke of the savings we see with birth to 3 years intervention and the Head Start program.
Some Washington Co. residents are fed up with dangerous cuts on the federal level. We grow weary watching the incompetence and lies of elected and appointed officials. We vote and will vote against Miller-Meeks. We are putting her on notice.
While Trump was mentioned, Miller-Meeks and her stance on issues was first and foremost. Veterans are learning of the consequences of this administration, so we assembled to tell Miller-Meeks to vote for the people she represents.
KCRG failed to capture the central concept of the town hall. Thankfully, we have Kalen McCain and the local newspaper to give a more accurate and balanced account of the town hall. I thought it was nice of KCRG to show up for an event at the Washington Library, but if they do not want to be factual they need not bother. We have Kalen and the Southeast Iowa Union.
