Pondering good vs. evil
By Mary LaFrancis, Fairfield

To the editor: I've been pondering this letter for weeks especially in regards to the culture, politics, world events and spirituality of our times.
As a retired registered nurse at age 84, having 'been around many blocks,” many 'ages,” I've been considering 'what matters most,” seeking for trustworthy principles, 'truths that set us free.”
Some words I've learned, some from years of practice of TM (Transcendental Meditation) and study at Maharishi University, which I left long ago, yet I still respect and value much of my experiences and what I learned.
So 'back to basics” in respect to the events and seeming trends of these times, in the practice of my Catholic Faith, being founder and station manager of Holy Family Catholic Radio (KHFR 103.5 LPFM, Fairfield) here are some ideas I'd like to share.
I believe that God (the 'Ultimate Cause,” uncaused cause, [in the words of Fr. Robert Spitzer of the Magis Center.com]), source of manifest creation, is real and good. Also real is evil, 'Satan and the evil spirits that roam the earth seeking the ruin of souls” in Catholic expression.
So what about the 'culture of death,” abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide, crime, violence and war, environmental and health issues, gender confusion, politics and world affairs and so on?
There are 'laws of nature,” system, order, direction and intelligence in all things, including the 10 Commandments from scripture and ancient times, saying in part not to kill, murder (the sacredness of all life), and not to commit adultery, sex outside of marriage (the sacredness and goodness of our sexuality in the bonds of marriage) that brings true happiness, health and fulfillment.
I believe that good overcomes evil, that there is always hope! I just heard on KHFR that 'the devil bites its own tail, that evil turns on and destroys itself.”
I have learned and still learn 'Learn of Him, for His yoke is easy, His burden is light (and Love) and His Truth is everlasting, on earth as it is in Heaven” for Eternity, from whence we came, why we are here, and to which we will all return, our choice, heaven or hell!
I have learned to keep hope, have faith, to 'seek first the kingdom of heaven that all else will come according to divine will and purpose, 'on earth as it is in Heaven.”
So let's create 'on earth as it is in Heaven” with our prayers (talking to God about it) and good works! It's a promise sure as the beauty and wonder of a rainbow!
