To the editor:
I am writing this letter, during the most important election cycle for Iowans in history, in support of Mary Stewart.
Working class families, women, and those in need have been under vicious attack since the last election. The current conservative agenda in Des Moines has underfunded education and then cut that amount. They have privatized Medicaid, cannibalizing health care, while they profited.
The present conservatives in power love to say, 'Let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps,” all the while making sure they have no boots (education) to do just that. I have known Mary for over 40 years and she has worked tirelessly making sure the youth and people of southeast Iowa have access to programs through IHCC that gave people their boots and then taught them how to use them to better themselves.
This election is extremely important not only at a national level, but also right here in Southeast Iowa. Mary grew up working class, and then spent her entire career helping Iowans better themselves through community college programs. Don't be fooled by the scare tactics of current conservatives. The choice is clear. Mary Stewart is the only choice for District 41 State Senator.
