Supporting the Work of All God’s Creatures
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

In a world that moves quickly, there is a small, steady place in Henry County where compassion still sets the pace. All God’s Creatures Animal Shelter has been open less than a year, yet it has already become a lifeline for animals who are lost, abandoned, or surrendered through no fault of their own.
Inside are more than 100 cats and a dozen dogs, each with a story. Some are young and confused. Some have been mistreated. Some are elderly and simply need gentleness in the time they have left. All of them rely on the shelter for safety, care, and hope.
The work behind the scenes is immense. Dogs must be walked and exercised three times a day. Their kennels need constant cleaning, along with fresh food, water, and the human connection that keeps them grounded. The cats require vigilant attention to keep their spaces clean, safe, and enriched. Anyone who has cared for even one cat knows the effort … now imagine caring for dozens.
Then there is the never-ending laundry: blankets, towels, bedding, all washed, dried, folded, and replaced daily. It would take several full-time staff members to keep up, yet the shelter survives almost entirely on donations and volunteer labor.
Despite these challenges, All God’s Creatures provides a vital service to our community, reuniting lost pets with families, keeping strays off the streets, and humanely managing the cat population through trapping, vaccination, and neutering. Local veterinarians who have stepped in with expertise and compassion deserve our gratitude.
If we want this shelter to continue its work, it needs more hands and more hearts. Students, retirees, service clubs, and anyone with a little time can make a meaningful difference.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, this is the moment. Your time can change a life.
Let’s show these animals, and the people who care for them, that Henry County truly stands behind them.
Respectfully,
Kasey Conrad, Mt. Pleasant
