Henry County Master Gardeners present the 13th Annual Spring Symposium. The symposium will be held on Saturday, March 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. The event is open to all gardeners and offers something for everyone! The morning keynote, 'HortEcology - Lessons from Wild Plant Communities,” will be presented by rising star plantsman and award-winning author Kelly Norris. The afternoon keynote speaker will be Lisa Orgler, ISU Department of Horticulture Senior Lecturer, discussing 'The Artful Composition of Foundation Plantings.”
As always, there will be a variety of breakout sessions to choose from. This year's topics include new perennials for modern gardens, food preservation 101, ongoing water quality efforts at Lake Geode, not the vegetable garden you grew up with, the appeal of herb gardens, using design principals to guide your garden space, an adventure in sustainable living, ornamental grasses, as well as honey bee and native bee health in Iowa! The Henry County Master Gardeners will again lead the ever-popular 'Make and Take” session where 25 participants will construct a corrugated Metal Dragonfly.
Cost of the symposium is $30 and includes lunch. Registrations and fees must be returned to the Henry County Extension office (127 N. Main, Mt. Pleasant) by Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m. Participation is limited. There are no refunds on registrations and no late registrations will be accepted. Forms and information are available on the Henry County Extension website, www.extension.iastate.edu/henry, or at the Extension office.
