2011 Iowa State Fair Competition Results
Local residents who participated in various contests at the 2011 Iowa State Fair have been awarded with ribbons and titles.

Local residents who participated in various contests at the 2011 Iowa State Fair have been awarded with ribbons and titles.
4-H YOUTH COMPETITIONS
Jefferson County 4-H youth were involved in livestock events, creative arts entries, educational presentations and more during the Iowa State Fair.
In livestock events, Megan Black received a purple ribbon for a Champion Hereford Heifer in the breeding beef category. Also among breeding beef entries, Taylor Lock won a blue ribbon, Tucker Black received two blues, and Avery Bennett won one blue and one red ribbon.
Payton Lock won a purple ribbon and Justin Godwin received one blue in the market beef division.
For beef showmanship, Taylor Lock received a purple ribbon while Tucker Black and Payton Lock received one blue ribbon each.
Taylor Reynolds received two white ribbons in the horse division.
?Youth gain so many positive skills by exhibiting livestock,? said Mike Anderson, 4-H agriculture superintendent. ?The dedication, responsibility, decision-making and leadership they develop can prepare them for careers that use these skills.?
Family and consumer sciences entries at the state fair included child development, sewing and clothing, food and nutrition, and health. Receiving blue ribbons were Marissa Greenfield, Katherine Hull, Dana Melcher and Rachel Shaw. Red ribbons went to Jennifer Clements, Kaitlyn Conger, Katie Coop, Taylor Lock, Abby Melcher, Ashley Nelson and Danielle Smith. Kristen Daugherty and Gabriele Rutherford won white ribbons.
Personal development entries included self-determined, communication and citizenship. Receiving red ribbons were Kaylynn Lagle, Chelsea Lanphier, Joy Oliver and Rachel Shaw.
Creative arts entries included photos and visual arts. Blue ribbons went to Shea Dahlstrom, Becky Phillips and Seth Simmons. Hailey Coop, Kaitlyn Daugherty, Aaron Shaw and Rachel Shaw received red ribbons. Dana Diers won a white ribbon.
Among agriculture and natural resources exhibits, Kaitlyn Conger won a blue ribbon and Trenton Conger nabbed a red ribbon.
Jeremiah Baker and Ashley Nelson each won one blue ribbon, while Joshua Baker received a red ribbon in the science, engineering and technology exhibits.
Additionally, Jefferson County 4-H?ers earned recognition as great communicators at the Iowa State Fair. Joy Oliver received a Seal of Merit Certificate for her ?Making Homemade Diapers? presentation, and Payton Lock received a Seal of Excellence Certificate for ?Audio vs. Visual Learning.?
?Almost any time fair-goers come into the 4-H Exhibits Building they can learn from a 4-H?er participating in a communications activity,? said Mitchell Boyer, program coordinator for Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. ?Effective communication means appealing to the interests of your audience.?
