Washington County 4-H continues to accept and welcome new members this fall season to the 4-H and Clover Kid programs. After the first annual 4-H Find Out Night held Oct. 24 in conjunction with Washington Chamber?s Oktober Madness events, Amy Green, Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator, was pleased with the questions and information presented to new families.
?As 4-H staff, volunteers and members, we know 4-H very well but don?t always know what questions people have, so it was a good night to have time available for kids to explore and learn while I could talk with parents and confirm 4-H is a place where they can belong and grow,? explained Green.
Visitors were able to explore several 4-H projects through some hands-on learning activities and working exhibits. 4-H?ers Jenna Messer, Katie Palmer and Lindsey Palmer presented their 4-H Working Exhibits while County Council members Austin Stalder, Roman Kiefer and Peyton Cuddeback assisted youth with a visual arts texture experience and healthy living label reading exercise. The most challenging station of the night was building and programming Scooterbots to move following certain routes.
Washington County 4-H has over 17 4-H clubs welcoming fourth-to 12th-grade students and seven Clover Kids clubs open to kindergarten-to third-grade students. Contact the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811, on how to find a club or how to become involved as a volunteer.
