The 4-H County Council and the Extension Office sponsored a 4-H Fire Up workshop on Sunday, Feb. 19, for new Washington County 4-H?ers to learn more about 4-H. Over 40 youth and family members left fired up to begin projects and teach others about 4-H.
Each family received a 4-H handbook with general 4-H information, project ideas, important dates, the how-to-do of goal writing and record keeping, and more. These handbooks are available at the Extension office for other new members. 4-H?ers participated in a working exhibit led by Jenna Messer of Washington Go Getters 4-H Club. Carmen, Greta and Charlotte Sieren of the Dutch Creek Flyers 4-H Club shared their Pride of Iowa presentation with deviled eggs. New members also learned about a range of project areas and opportunities 4-H has to offer through presentations from County Council members and senior 4-H members including: Lindsey Palmer, Jacob Leonard, Austin Stalder, Amanda Pfeiffer, Frankie Johnson, Hailey Shultz, Logan Sieren, Lauren Sieren, Ellie Todd, Lexi Black, Grace Hiller and Youth Committee volunteer Nicole Stoutner.
While 4-H?ers were experiencing hands-on learning STEM, parents were able to listen to a 4-H parent panel featuring 4-H parents Mike Todd, Kathy Dolan, Angela Taylor, and Karen Dennler. 4-H encourages family participation and parents to also network with each other as they get more involved with the program.
For more information about the Washington County 4-H program as either a volunteer or member, please contact the Washington County Extension office at 319-653-4811.
