4-H judges training
N/A
Sep. 28, 2018 11:15 am
From communications to home improvement, Iowa 4-H offers experiential learning opportunities for youth grades K-12 across Iowa. A training will be offered to train new 4-H county fair judges and update current judges on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Mahaska County Extension Office in Oskaloosa.
This specialized judges' training prepares the adult evaluators in subject matter, rules and standards for the upcoming 4-H fair season.
After training, participants will understand positive youth development, 4-H exhibit expectations and guidelines, and how to evaluate, educate and encourage during conference judging. This training will be delivered by Iowa State University Extension & Outreach Youth Program Specialists and current 4-H judges.
'We especially welcome those who are new to 4-H judging. We need more adults who can support youth in their personal growth and project learning,” said Jennie Hargrove, ISU Extension and Outreach Youth Program Specialist. Current judges, 4-H Club leaders, ISU Extension and Outreach staff, and others interested in working with youth at fairs also are encouraged to attend. There is a fee for the event. Current judges can attend for the afternoon only, new judges should plan to attend the full day. Registration closes Wednesday, Oct. 24.
