Washington County 4-H and the 4-H volunteers know they are in an important business of helping young people grow. They are committed to providing safe environments, opportunities for service and leadership, and inclusive settings to the youth of Washington County. Thirty-three of the volunteer leaders gathered Jan. 18 at the Extension Office for continued learning and professional development so they can continue to improve at what they do and who they are for the 4-H members.
The group shared some ?gee whiz? ideas and moments of the past year, reviewed key points of financial record keeping, brainstormed ways to improve the 4-H paperwork process and practiced some hands-on learning STEM activities they can start using in their own clubs.
Leaders Becky Palmer, Marianne Van Roekel, Marty Van Roekel and Bob Spenner paired together to build, test, and improve catapults that would compete for distance and accuracy. One priority topic of 4-H is STEM and clubs continue to incorporate that learning into their programs.
4-H has numerous adult volunteer opportunities come about all throughout the year ranging in an hour of service to a day of service to a monthly club leader. Contact Amy at the Washington County Extension Office with questions about volunteer opportunities.
