AMES ? The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced the recipients of more than 70 Iowa 4-H college scholarships valued at more than $70,000. Recipients accepted their awards on Sunday, June 5, at the foundation?s scholarship reception held in the Scheman Building at Iowa State University. More than 500 applications were submitted. Award recipients hail from 33 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences. Lexi Marek and Maddie Hora of Washington County were two of the scholarship recipients.
Scholarship applications were evaluated based on the applicant?s 4-H participation, academic accomplishments, goals and future plans, and financial need, as well as other criteria established by the Iowa 4-H Foundation and the scholarship donors.
The 2016 Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship Honorees from Washington County included: Mahr Family Ag and Life Sciences 4-H Scholarship awarded to Alexandra Marek, and Persinger-Asmus Family 4-H Scholarship awarded to Maddie Hora.
