The Jefferson County 4-H Horse Club held a Working Cow Horse Clinic 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
The youth learned how a horse shows its ability to work a cow. It consisted of boxing a cow at the end of the arena to show control, taking the cow down the fence and turning each direction, as well as circling the cow in the middle of the arena in both directions.
The clinic was held by Hannah Bergfeld, three-time working cow horse champion. Her family owns KJB Ranch, training and selling high quality paint and quarter horses.
Participants were Malcom Myers, Shelby Heston, Kelly Lacey, Kaitlyn Clemmons, Hannah Bergfeld, Madison Durflinger, Stetson Spees, Casey Smith and Danielle Smith.
The horse club parents, the Jefferson County Fair Board, Jefferson County ISU Extension and Pizza Hut helped make the clinic a success.
The Jefferson County 4-H Horse Club is planning to have more clinics in the future, with one possibly as soon as this fall.
