A 5K run/walk to honor the memory of Delmar Holtz, a long-time runner from West Point and barber in Salem, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 as a fundraiser for the local Catholic Church.
The Delmar Holtz Memorial 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the City Hall on the square in West Point. The route will take participants through Pollmiller Park and end at City Hall. Day-of registration and packet pick up begins at 7:45 a.m. Cost is $25.
To register in advance or to make a donation, go to runsignup.com (search Delmar Holtz Memorial), or call John Holtz, Delmar’s son, at 816-244-6138. All proceeds will benefit St. Mary Church (in West Point) Building Fund. Registration deadline is Sept. 6. Baked goods will also be for sale at the run/walk, and for every $10 spent, you will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.
Delmar, who passed away Sept. 28, 2023, didn’t start running until he was almost 50, but ended up competing in 5Ks and 10Ks, marathons, a 50K, and triathlons. He competed in his last event, a triathlon at Lake Geode, when he was 80 years old.
