July 14 The Washington County Extension Office held a ?Parachutes? Day Camp for second-and third-graders with the help of five County Council Members. Camps were held July 12 and 13, at Riverside and Marr Park.
Campers enjoyed the story ?Paulo?s Parachute Mission,? where they learned that engineers design parachutes for spaceships. Youth had the opportunity to explore their five senses, play with a giant parachute and build group/individual parachutes that they launched from the top of the slide.
County volunteers included: Keiffer Sexton, Katie Palmer, Jameson Spenner, Peyton Cuddeback, and Clara Schmitz.
Students finishing second and third grades participated in the day camp sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Washington County. Summer Day Camps are offered each year for youth pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. Contact the Washington County Extension Office for more information at 319-653-4811.
