Pumpkin Smiles and Costume Styles will be the theme for the Oct. 31 ACORN club meeting with the Henry County Conservation Department. Guests are encouraged to come in a homemade costume and learn about the history of pumpkin carving. There will be a prize for the best costume. Guests are also encouraged to bring their favorite pumpkin recipe on a 3” x 5” card. A recipe handout will be made for everyone to take home. Muffins and cider will be provided along with a small pumpkin to carve. This free program starts at 1 p.m. at the Oakland Mills Nature Center. The RSVP deadline is Oct. 26. Preregistration is available at mycountyparks.com or by calling the conservation office at 319-986-5067. They must have 10 people preregister in order to hold the program. ACORN is a club for those interested in conservation topics who are 18 years of age and older.
