Highland Community School Seniors Olivia Reschly and Colton Bean are taking part in Hawkeye Girls? and Boys? State government training programs, respectively, on the Iowa State University campus in Ames, and at Camp Dodge in Johnston, June 15-20. The two have been selected by Ainsworth?s James Harlan Thoma American Legion Post 351 to take part in the nationwide American Legion and Legion Auxiliary leadership training.
The event will include mock legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations and assemblies, as well as a band, chorus and recreational programs.
?The training in Hawkeye Girls? State and Hawkeye Boys? State programs are unique ways for young women and men to learn firsthand about the American system of government by taking part in these simulated systems,? said Tom Hartsock, Post 351 Commander. ?Each system adheres to the basic concept of teaching government from the township to the state level.?
Both Reschly and Bean are members of the National Honor Society and take part in numerous community activities. Reschly is the daughter of Jeffrey and Denise Reschly of Riverside. Bean is the son of Dennis and Kristi Bean of Ainsworth.
