Ainsworth ? A soup supper benefit will be held Saturday evening at the Ainsworth Opera House.
Money from the soup supper will go toward helping Sharon Gillis, a lifelong Ainsworth resident and Ainsworth Opera House volunteer, with her medical expenses, said George Schultz.
Gillis was diagnosed with stomach cancer around Thanksgiving, which has spread to her lungs, he said.
The soup supper will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will go until the food runs out, he said.
?When we decided to do this benefit we asked the community and public on our Facebook page to help out with the ingredients,? Schultz said. ?Within 24 hours we had all the ingredients donated. The community has been awesome [with their support].?
There are also two door prizes that will be given away during the soup supper ? a 32-inch TV and a meat bundle from Fareway, Schultz said.
Ainsworth residents know Gillis as the treasurer and secretary at the Ainsworth Opera House, he said.
?She also cooked a lot,? Schultz said. ?Every month we?d have Saturday morning breakfast at the Opera House and she did most of the cooking for that. Mike Zahs would do tours and she would come down and cook food for that, too. She also helped with Ainsworth Fun Days ? anything in the community she would help with.?
