American Legion Auxiliary November meeting minutes

The American Legion Auxiliary Leon Beatty Post 29 met on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at the Washington County Ambulance Center. President Sue Gilmere called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Opening prayer was given by Dixie Young. The Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the Preamble of God and Country was recited by all. There were no additions to the minutes, which were approved. There was no treasurer's report because of the absence of Dixie Conrad. It was noted that the Unit's membership was ow at 65 percent. There was no correspondence.

Martha Hahn reported that she had received 17 names of girls interested in attending Girls State from June 16-21, 2019. The Unit will select two girls to attend. There is a cost for each girl, and the girls must be 16 by Sept. 15 of the previous year. Reservations must be sent in by Dec. 1, 2018, with a confirmation date of Feb. 28, 2019. No refunds will be offered after April 1, 2019. The cost for seats on the bus has been raised to $10 for each girl. It was also noted that the Girls State will be celebrating its 75th year in 2019, and the Legion will be celebrating 100 years.

Sue reported that she attended the district meeting at West Liberty, with only 41 members present. She reported that the VA Hospital was in need of volunteers and lap robes. Material for the lap robes must be new, and the size is 4-by-5. Hospice was also in need of some lap robes.

There was some discussion concerning Washington's and Wellman's disbanding the county unit due to low attendance. It was noted that there was low attendance at the Veterans Day events and dinner. Sue thanked all those who furnished desserts.

Sue reported that John Sweet would be speaking at the Blair House at 5 p.m., Nov. 14.

It was reported that the Spring District Meeting would be held in April 2019 at Mt. Pleasant.
