Back by popular demand, hilarious comedy will burst to life again during An Evening of Improvisation Theater at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events April 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington High School, 1111 S. Ave. B., Washington, Iowa.
An Evening of Improv is Washington’s version of “Whose Line is It?” Audience participation is essential! The audience provides clever situations and characters. The audience input will challenge the players to create and deliver quick-witted family appropriate comedy! The impromptu scene will then erupt spontaneously on stage leaving the audience laughing and cheering for more!
A free will donation will be the cost of admission.
Act I will feature Washington High School speech students: Isabella Lujan, Luna Morris and Claire Wubbena performing their Iowa High School Speech Association events from this year. Jack Greiner and Cailee Wenger will delight the audience with few show tunes. Jack will also perform an individual improv event similar to what he did in his high school years for which he will draw from a basket a situation and two characters and must create a short scene including those three elements! He will play both characters!
Act II will feature Washington’s 2025 Improvisational acting team including veteran performers: Greg Wiley, Tom Dawson, Eric Hanson, Dan Kitchen, Brett Pierson, and newcomers: Kent Keating, Kelly Juelsgaard and Jack Greiner. Audience members will be asked to help determine the subject matter of the acting scenes. Actors receive just a minute or so to plan and then perform. Audience members are advised to expect some good belly laughs and tears of joy, so Kleenex is recommended.
The Washington Performing Arts Series committee has announced this as a fundraising event for the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center’s Hanson Auditorium.
The free will donations will help support the purchase of additional as well replacement sound and light equipment for the high school auditorium. When the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center was built several items had to be left off the final budget because the cost of building rose approximately $400,000 every six months during the final months as bids were being made.
Items removed from the budget include an additional batten and lights for the back section of the stage without which reading sheet music is quite difficult. Another additional batten and curtain for center stage are needed as well as more lights and sound equipment. In addition, after nearly 10 years of use some equipment will need to be replaced.
The Performing Arts Center is used by band, vocal music, theater rehearsals and performances as well as set building, all-school assemblies, teacher/staff meetings, elementary concerts and middle school plays and concerts as well as Washington Performing Arts Series events. The Washington Performing Arts and Events Center is also rented by other group for events throughout the year including weekly church services. Upkeep is essential!
Join this lighthearted event and help support the auditorium!
