Anderson honored for 75 years in Legion
CRAWFORDSVILLE NEWS

On April 17, Arvid H. Anderson of Crawfordsville was presented a certificate for 75 years of continuous membership in the American Legion. The framed certificate was presented to Arvid by Legionnaire E.R. Whiting and his wife Janet at the Anderson farm.
The 75th continuous membership certificate was signed on the 15th day of March 2021 by National Commander James W. "Bill" Oxford and National Adjutant Daniel S. Wheeler and Crawfordsville American Legion Post Commander, Jeffrey Johnston.
This is a special recognition that Arvid is very appreciative of and will always remember.
United Church Women
The United Church Women met Tuesday, May11, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the UCC Fellowship Hall with nine ladies present.
The meditation was given by Clarissa Malmberg using the book "Anxious for Nothing" by Max Lucado.
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison.
Secretary Billie Jo Rose read the minutes of the September 8, 2020 meeting and they were approved as read. It should be noted no meetings have been held since then due to the pandemic.
Pat Miller, treasurer gave her report and there was a balance on hand as of May 11, 2021 of $1258.80.
It was decided the Blessing Boxes will be turned in November 2021.
A reminder since we haven't been unable to have fundraisers, please consider all gifts this year, including the Call to Prayer and Self Denial and Birthday offering, as well as our general fund.
Correspondence: Various thank you notes/letters collected over the past year were passed around. There were also thank you notes from the Harold Steele family, as well as the family of Joanne Hartman posted on the bulletin board.
Local Activities: It was moved, seconded and carried to do the Lions Club supper in September, if asked.
Alumni Banquet will be Saturday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. There will be no meal, however the committee is asking the ladies to provide cookies/bars, coffee, lemonade and ice tea and two or three women to help.
Dorcas: A report that 12 full size quilts and nine children’s quilts had been made. Wilma's daughter, Chris and she are always busy putting batting and backing on quilts. A quilt was taken to Jenny Kaufman, who is recovering from a recent accident.
Cards, Flowers and Gifts: The usual mix of cards had been sent.
Study & Devotion/Mission Outreach: The Least Coin Offering and the prayer of Least Coin was read together.
Old Business: Since the Spring Rummage sale was cancelled due to the pandemic a motion was made, seconded and passed to have a Fall Rummage sale Thursday, Sept. 2 through Saturday, Sept. 4.
A decision by the Executive Committee had been made to give the end of the year 2020 monies to 11 designated in the guidelines; a gift to the custodian, a sewing expense and the UMW and UPW 2020 pledges.
New Business: There has been a request to use the church for approximately 18 people on September 2, 2021 for a gathering following the burial of family members. It was agreed to let them use the lounge for this, as the Rummage Sale will be in progress. Ruth and Margaret will be in charge of and will hostess this.
Upcoming Events/News Items: UMW - There is a "new" Southeast Iowa District- combined nine new counties into the SE District on January 1, 2021, and there are now only five districts. The UM camps will be up and running in person this summer. They are requesting masks and are in need of masks. If anyone is interested in making/supplying them, contact Debbie.

Following a motion to adjourn, the Closing Creed was read in unison.
Closing thoughts: Debbie shared "Daily prayers will diminish your cares," and "Be like a postage stamp - stick to one thing til you get there." Also, "The Church is something you are, not somewhere to go."
Lions Club
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, May 24, at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 14 members present. President Mike Massey opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Larry Love offered prayer.
The minutes of the May 10 meeting were approved as read by Lion Billie Jo Rose. Lion Treasurer Randy Finke gave his report. There was no correspondence.
Old Business: Jennie Greene reported presenting Olivia Leichty with the Lions Scholarship at the WACO Awards Night on May 18.
New Business: The Lions Blood Drive will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 at the United Church of Crawfordsville from 2:30-7:30 p.m. For appointments, call either David Jewell or Billie Jo Rose. Masks and appointments are required.
Lion President Mike reported speaking with Alice Hochstetler concerning serving our supper at the Community Room for our June 14 meeting. She has agreed to do this.
As there was no further business, the meeting adjourned.
Following adjournment, Tail Twister Lion Fletcher entertained with some 60's trivia.
Refreshments were served by the committee of Fletcher and Williams.
Congratulations to Audrey Smith for her standing in the 2021 National Archery Schools Program 3D Challenge Virtual Tournament held April 18 through May 9. She scored 268 out of 300, the Washington Middle School seventh grader ranked 359 out of 1,842 overall girls, Ranked 102 out of 698 Middle School division girls and ranked 40 out of 254 seventh grade Girls. A big honor! Audrey is the daughter of Sonya Love-Smith and Clyde Smith.
Also a very big honor and congratulations goes out to Grace Coble, a sophomore at WACO who has been selected to serve on the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union Student Athletic Advisory Committee. She will join a 14-member committee made up of female student athletes representing schools from all classes across the state. She was one of only eight girls selected to serve from 93 applicants.
The committee tackles issues related to girl's high school athletic activities in Iowa. Committee members are a voice for Iowa's female student-athletes and as a sounding board for the Union's Council and Board of Directors.
Committee members also assist in the promotion of interscholastic athletes. They discuss and give feedback for issues dealing with sportsmanship, safety, student leadership and participation.They serve as student ambassadors at various state tournaments throughout the year.
Grace participates in Warrior Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Dance Team, Choir and Orchestra. She was also chosen by her teachers to be in the WACO chapter of National Honor Society and was voted into positions of class officer and student council by her peers. Grace is the daughter of Jay and Carrie Coble of Crawfordsville. What an accomplishment!
