Anna Nafziger from Washington County was awarded the Orscheln 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation at the recognition ceremony on Sunday, June 5 in Ames.
Ninety-five Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at over $124,000 were awarded as a part of the Foundation’s scholarship recognition ceremony. Over 454 applications were submitted and scholarships have been awarded to recipients from 50 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.
Attending 4-H State Youth Conference on the Iowa State campus gave Anna a familiarity with campus life. Many of her 4-H role models attended Iowa State University and they always talk highly of the education, campus, and people they met. Anna will be attending Iowa State University pursing a degree in animal science.
“4-H has led me to doing many activities that are out of my comfort zone. 4-H encouraged me to take multiple Agriculture Education classes at my High School. Between 4-H and Ag related classes I found a passion for Agriculture and all it has to offer,” says Nafziger.
“Iowa 4-H Foundation scholarships acknowledge the hard work and dedication of young people who have used their 4-H skills and experiences to ‘make the best better’ for others,” said Emily Saveraid, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “We also are thankful for the many scholarship donors who fund these important opportunities for Iowa 4-H’ers.”
Another long standing 4-H partner has been Orscheln, who has been providing 4-H scholarships for over 30 years. Orscheln now awards several scholarships to young people who reside in counties where Orscheln stores are located.
