JEFFERSON COUNTY FARM BUREAU WOMEN
Farm Bureau Women met for a noon luncheon April 5 at Yummy?s Gourmet Cakes.
A total of 10 members and three guests were present. Roll call was answered on the government of South Africa.
Shirley Stanley opened the meeting with a reading entitled ?It?s Up to You.? Minutes were approved as read.
A letter was received from the Veterans Honor Flight in appreciation for the generous donations sent to them.
Stanley thanked everyone for helping prepare for the Women in Ag Day program and for contributions of food. She also reminded members to be thinking of ideas that could be used during Ag Days for Kids during the Jefferson County Fair.
Wilma Whitham reminded members to avoid identity theft by having copies of driver?s license, Social Security card, passport and other identity forms made.
The program was given by Mary Carol Fish, who had just returned from a trip to South Africa. After 18 hours on a plane, she landed in Johannesburg to visit a former foreign exchange student, Soloman, who came to Iowa in 1985. During his time in Iowa, they were able to bring over his 11-year-old brother Theo.
After touring three large farms in South Africa, Fish spent time in Kruger National Park, showing members slides of its many diverse animals and scenery.
The next Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women meeting will be May 3. Wilma Lewis Whitham will serve as hostess and program leader.
