EAGLES CLUB
The 103rd annual Fraternal Order of Eagles State Convention and 61st annual Iowa State Auxiliary Convention were held in Des Moines June 21-25.
Attending from the Fairfield Eagles Club were Dan Symmonds, Larry Hill and Norma Hill.
Grand Worthy Treasurer Jim West of Hopkinsville, Ky., Grand Worthy Trustee Chuck Lang of Harvey, N.D., and Auxiliary Grand Madam Chaplain Pat Durham of Olympia, Wash., were grand aerie and auxiliary representatives.
Jerry and Barb Roush of Ottumwa were installed as Iowa State Aerie and Auxiliary state presidents for the 2011-2012 year. Jerry also is a dual member of the Fairfield aerie. The couple?s state charity project is multiple sclerosis for the coming year; their daughter has been afflicted with MS for 20 years. State charity nights will be held throughout the state at clubs, and Fairfield?s club will be holding a charity night Feb. 11.
The Fairfield auxiliary received a trophy for 2010-2011 Quota Auxiliary. It was given first place producer for the Eagles Diabetes Fund for a class B auxiliary and third place producer for the Golden Eagle Fund for a class B auxiliary. The auxiliary also finished second for the Community Excellence award for a class C auxiliary.
Barb Cobler of Ottumwa, a member of the Fairfield auxiliary, was elected to the Iowa State Auxiliary Hall of Fame. Larry Hill was appointed chairman of the Iowa State Secretary?s Club.
A banquet was held June 24. Dr. John Stokes of Iowa City showed a video of the Diabetes Research Center, which the Fraternal Order of Eagles and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are partnering to build. The order is committed to raising $25 million in five years to build the center.
A check for $128,645.09 was presented to the Handicapped Disability Center in Davenport. The money will be used to purchase two vans to transport handicapped persons.
The 104th annual state convention will be held in Iowa City next year.
