AREA COMMUNITY NEWS: Cantril hosting annual celebration Friday, Saturday

CANTRIL - The eighth annual Cantril Dayz celebration is set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2-3, with all activities at or near the ball diamond.
Friday evening events include: a Taste of Cantril Supper, featuring grilled chicken, at 5 p.m.; soft serve ice cream served 5-8 p.m., with proceeds to the Cantril Light Project; the Danny Hughes/Doc Martin Memorial 31 Tournament at 6 p.m. under the tent; a donkey baseball game at 6:30 p.m.; and the co-ed softball tournament beginning after the donkey baseball game.
The softball tournament resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Other Saturday events include the Robinson Carving Company demonstrating its chain saw skills from noon to 5 p.m. Their creations will be auctioned at 7:30 p.m. A bounce house and Stuff A Bear from noon to 8 p.m.; and a Walk to Win that starts at noon and continues until the prizes are gone.
Registration for a sanctioned Kiddie Tractor Pull is at 12:30 p.m., with the pull beginning at 1 p.m. on the old tennis court.
Soft-serve ice cream will be served from 2-4 p.m., with proceeds to the Cantril Light Project.
Tom Terrific, the Balloon Man, will be showing his skills from 2-6 p.m., a silver mine is set for 2:30 p.m., and a pig scramble will be at 3 p.m. Registration for the pig scramble is at 2:45 p.m.
Lineup for the Kickin' It Up in Cantril parade is at 5:30 p.m. in the Waubonsie Campground. The grand marshals are Roger and Terri Berkoski. The parade will step off at 6 p.m.
A candy drop will be at 7 p.m. A donkey drop will be at 7:15 p.m. The raffle drawing will be at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks at about 9 p.m.
