AREA COMMUNITY NEWS: Van Buren Fair opens Monday

KEOSAUQUA -- The 2019 Van Buren County Fair opens Monday and continues through July 29 at the fairgrounds north of Keosauqua.
This year's fair is dedicated to Tom Carr.
Events will actually get underway Sunday afternoon with the 4-H Communications judging from 1-3 p.m. at the Roberts Memorial Center on the fairgrounds. Exhibitors need to arrive by 12:30 p.m.
The fair queen, junior miss and princess contests are set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Roberts Memorial Center.
The queen contestants include:
' Erin Tedrow, daughter of Brad and Allison Tedrow of Cantril. She is 18 years old and a recent graduate of Van Buren High School.
' Chloe Teninty, daughter of Tony and Carrie Teninty of Eldon. She is 17 years old and a recent graduate of Van Buren High School.
' Logan Schmitt, daughter of Ron and Karin Schmitt of Birmingham. She is 16 years old and will be entering her senior year at Van Buren High School this fall.
Highlights of the Van Buren County Fair include a carnival open July 25-28 at various hours each day.
A free movie and popcorn will be at 8:30 p.m. July 25.
The Goehring Ranch Rodeo will be at 5:30 p.m. July 26, with Who's Playn in concert at 8 p.m.
Stumptown will be in concert at 8 p.m. July 27, followed by Jason Brown's concert. A beer tent will be available to anyone 21 years old or older.
A community worship service is planned at 9 a.m. July 28, plus July 28 is Kids Day, with a baby contest, free kids' games, water relays, mud volleyball, and a pedal-tractor pull. A free magic show is set for 1 p.m., and a hypnosis show is at 6:30 p.m. A horse pull exhibitjion is planned.
The Marcie Carr Memorial Award will be presented at 4 p.m. July 29, followed by a meal at 5:30 p.m. and the 4-H/FFA livestock sale set for 7 p.m.
