Area residents win at Iowa State Fair
Several area residents have been named winners in contests at the 2012 Iowa State Fair, which opened Thursday and continues through Sunday in Des Moines.

Several area residents have been named winners in contests at the 2012 Iowa State Fair, which opened Thursday and continues through Sunday in Des Moines.
In the King Arthur Flour Bread contest, judged Aug. 7 prior to the start of the fair, Sonny Melchers of Fairfield earned third place overall. He also earned first place in adama; first place in yeast bread other than named; third place in egg; and third place in cheesy potato bread. Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and texture.
Six-year old Dalton Lange of Fairfield placed fifth out of 30 in the youth rooster crowing contest judged Thursday.
Georgia and Jasmine Padget of Birmingham were named Ages 7-8, Most Alike in the annual Twins, Triplets and More contest judged Thursday on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Cedar Valley Winery of Batavia earned awards in the Iowa Wine Commercial Competition July 28. The winery?s Marechal Foch and Foch Rose wines were Silver winners. Its Lacross Reserve, Vignoles and Norton wines were Bronze winners.
Steve Tiffany of Fairfield placed first in the digital category of the Fine Arts competition judged prior to the start of the fair. The three-judge panel evaluated nearly 500 hundred pieces of art before making their decisions.
