Area residents winning in 2015 Iowa State Fair contests

DES MOINES ? Today was opening day of the 2015 Iowa State Fair, but area residents are already bringing home honors from contests.

The Doll Houses and Miniature Rooms competition was judged prior to the start of the fair.

Marilyn Ekle of Farmington earned third place in Novelty Design and first place in Open Class.

The Famous Dave?s Canned Pickles competition was judged Tuesday.

In Cucumber Pickles - Cucumber Pickles Other Than Named, pint or quart jar, Michelle Burgmeier of Lockridge took first place.

In Walmart?s Canned Vegetables competition, also judged Tuesday, Burgmeier placed third in Tomatoes (not cherry or grape).

Competitions continue throughout the fair, which concludes Aug. 23. Results and information can be found on the website www.iowastatefair.org.
