Area teams run in Burlington for SEISC championships

BURLINGTON ? The WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union cross-country teams were at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament in Burlington.
The W-MU boys had the best performance of either school, placing seventh, with 178 points. The WACO girls placed ninth, with 243 points. The W-MU girls and WACO boys were both unable to score as a team.

BURLINGTON ? The WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union cross-country teams were at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament in Burlington.
The W-MU boys had the best performance of either school, placing seventh, with 178 points. The WACO girls placed ninth, with 243 points. The W-MU girls and WACO boys were both unable to score as a team.
Gavin Bencze had a big day for W-MU, finishing fifth place behind a group of Pekin runners. His final time was 18:10.
Brock Fricke ran the race in a 12th-place 18:51 for the Wolves. Asa Gipple finished 41st, in 20:22. Kolten Buster was 56th, in 21:45, and Jackson Brown rounded out the Wolves? scoring with a 64th-place 22:40.
Other runners for the W-MU boys were Nick Davis, who placed 72nd, in 23:31, and Nolan Ross, who was 76th, in 24:28.
WACO was led in the boys? race by John Skriver, who finished 48th, in 20:28. Joe Edeker was 82nd, in 23:33. Tanner Conwell was 87th, in 23:57, and Roman Kiefer finished 89th, in 24:51.
The top Henry County runner in the girls? race was New London?s Lexi Brown, who runs for the Danville-New London cross-country team. She finished seventh, in 21:45.
Cecelia Hemsworth placed 12th overall for W-MU, in 22:49. Whitney Vantiger placed 37th, in 25:50, and Lauren Hagge was 60th, in 29:24.
Kasey Sutton led the way for the WACO girls? team. She ran the race in 28:58, which was good enough for 44th place.
Makenzie Shelman placed 48th overall, in 32:39. Kanon Ujiie was 49th, in 32:43. Emily Thomson was 50th, in 34:13, and Katie Malloy was 52nd, in 39:25.
W-MU and WACO will each be back in regular season action next week. The Wolves will be in Central Lee, on Tuesday, Oct. 11. WACO will be at Mediapolis on Thursday, Oct. 13. Both of those meets will start at 4:30 p.m.
