Maharishi University of Management student Kenzie Wacknov is hosting ?A Sunny Show? 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at SunnyBrook Living Care Center.
The art show will feature work, including clay creations and drawings, created by the SunnyBrook residents during a months? long art project lead by Wacknov.
Wacknov is an M.U.M. student obtaining a bachelor of arts degree in education foundations, who previously earned a bachelor of fine arts. She designed a program to bring art to assisted living centers in southeast Iowa, and started it May 20 at SunnyBrook. While her focus was here in Fairfield, she also had a program at assisted living centers in Ottumwa and Iowa City.
Wacknov?s art program lasted 11 weeks, and each week built upon the skills learned the week before.
?It?s more about the process than the product,? Wacknov said. ?I?m focusing on art therapy, so I?m trying to bring out the skills they already have.?
Wacknov said that a resident of an assisted living center has most of their decisions made for them, so the art program was an opportunity where they could make their own choices and express themselves.
Waknov can be reached at kenzie.rebecca@gmail.com.
Community members are invited to the exhibit at SunnyBrook to see the art created by the residents, which reflect a lifetime of experiences.
