Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk is looking for participants for its April 4 event ?Spring Garden Celebration.?
Participants are needed to help turn the heart of Fairfield into a sure sign of spring as the organization partners with downtown businesses and the Fairfield Public Library to host ?Books in Bloom.?
Open to anyone, art walk organizers are building on the Fairfield library?s successful event of the same name. A participant can choose a book which peeks his or her imagination ? one from a personal collection or the library ? and design a still life that will be displayed at participating businesses and organizations in downtown Fairfield.
According to the guidelines, a particpant puts together a display, small or large, which must include a book and flowers, either real or creative replacements such as chocolate roses or flowers made of jewels, and produce an artistic still life display around a chosen theme.
For example, the art walk display window on the north side of the Fairfield square will focus on a book entitled ?Pearls.? This beautifully photographed book will be part of the still life including pearl jewelry, antique lines and white flowers.
Participants are encouraged to use their imaginations, talents and skills. The displays can be as varied as steampunk, trains, tattoos, gardens, animals and history.
?If there is a book about your theme, and you can tie in a floral connection, you can use it as a display,? said art walk?s executive director Cindy Woodbury
Individuals, groups or organizations interested in designing one of these artistic still life displays, can contact the art walk office at fairfieldartwalk@gmail.com or 233-8883 to be matched with a location.
No fee is required to participate, but participants must register and let organizers know the display?s theme.
?We are excited about this new addition to the 2014 art walks,? said Woodbury. ?There are so many talented people in Fairfield, and everyone seems ready for spring, so we thought this would be a fun way to celebrate the season.?
Art is always subjective, and art walk looks at each of its events as an opportunity to present different perspectives on what defines ?art.? A full schedule of the 2014 events can be found at www.fairfieldartwalk.org.
