The Lord?s Cupboard is still seeking donations of items needed for the 500 holiday meal boxes it will be distributing later this month to low-income families in Jefferson County. ?Between now and [Tuesday], the Jefferson County community is invited to donate the items we still need for the 500 boxes,? said Laura C. Cohen, coordinator of The Lord?s Cupboard.
Cohen listed the items as: 5-ounce cans of tuna; 14.5-ounce cans of diced tomatoes; boxed ?helper? for hamburger, tuna, or chicken; canned spaghetti sauce; and 15-ounce cans of corn or green beans.
Monetary donations also are greatly needed, as the holiday meal boxes contain many fresh items, which must be purchased.
?Please consider your blessings, and opt to sponsor a family?s holiday meal box for only $27,? said Cohen.
Donations may be made in person, by mail at PO Box 343 in Fairfield, or online at www.LordsCupboard.org.
The annual packing of the boxes take place at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Nazarene Family Center.
The Lord?s Cupboard of Jefferson County is the county?s sole emergency food pantry and distributes about 6,000 food orders per year. Nearly half of those served by the pantry are under the age of 18. Donations of food or cash are always accepted at The Lord?s Cupboard from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
