One of my favorite roles as Library Director is helping to encourage our community to do more reading. I?m here today to also help encourage Washington residents to do more writing. We truly believe everyone has a story to tell, and we are here to help you share your story with the world, or at least our small part of the world.
Local authors, or potential authors, are invited to Washington Writers Workshops once a month in the library. The next WWW is Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m., when Shirley and Ray Hendrickson will be discussing how they decided to tell their own stories by writing books.
Next time you?re browsing the library?s print collection, look for the special label that says ?Iowa Author? on the spine, and consider trying a book from an area author. If you?ve written a book, please let us know and we?ll add it to the collection.
Finally, we have a new space on our website to highlight local (Washington County) authors ? the Local Authors Collection. With many authors choosing to self-publish an e-book rather than take on the risk of printing copies of their books, we decided to create a space where local authors' digital works can be shared with the public: http://www.washington.lib.ia.us/digital.
If you or someone you know has written an e-book or a print book, please let us know so we can help share your story!
These are the new materials available at the library this week.
