At the Library

I apologize if anyone has already read this story I posted on our Facebook page, but wanted to share it with our readers who may not use social media.
One of our regular patrons took a nasty spill in Central Park last week. A woman saw the accident and went to help the boy. He asked her to bring him to the library for help. It was startling with the blood running down his face from the wound on his head. He also suffered a pair of skinned knees. As a staff we managed to clean him up and got the bleeding under control. He stayed with us until a family member was able to pick him up.
Being a part of the library staff, I appreciate the relationships we have built with our patrons. The boy feels safe in our library and knew we would be there to help him. Many times this summer we have had to correct behavior problems and issue warnings, but at the end of the day these kids trust the staff and know we care about them. We are a huge part of their village.
We want everyone who walks through our doors to know they have a place at the library. As the population continues to grow and we become an even more diverse community, our counter at the library is always ready to welcome anyone.
