At the Library

In my column today, I would like to write about a program that many of our patrons may not know about. Two weeks ago I delivered two boxes of books to the Washington County Hospital OB department. Along with our generous partners, the Washington Lions Club, we are able to sponsor a Books to Babies program for parents of newborns born at the hospital.

Each family receives a book at the time their baby is born, along with a brochure with information on how to get a little one ready to read. Research has shown the importance of reading to a newborn, so we appreciate being able to collaborate with the Lions Club in this very worthwhile program.

We recently concluded our last session of Wee Read. It has been a wonderful year of reading, singing, and moving with our happy, creative, and energetic toddlers and preschoolers. I have enjoyed all of the families who were a part of the program, and appreciate the effort they made to get to the library.

Families with toddlers, and preschoolers are invited to register for our Blank Park Zoo program to be held on Wednesday, April 26. You can stop by the library or call us at 653-2726 if you would like to register. The program is made possible through a donation from Hills Bank, and should be a lot of fun.

Summer reading registration will begin May 1. The library will have reading programs, and events for all ages. Check on our website, and on Facebook for more details.
