At the library: Forever grateful we will be

In a recent Facebook post, a patron had shared a video of her son's college graduation. He graduated during COVID, so the ceremony was virtual and mom and dad were excited to attend. Shortly before the ceremony was to begin, their internet at home went out.
The Washington Public Library came to mind, and they quickly called to see if they could use one of our computers to watch the ceremony. Without hesitation, our Adult Services Librarian Tammy Valentine told them we would have a computer ready. Once they arrived, we soon discovered there was a problem trying to connect to the school from our public computers.
Tammy began to troubleshoot the issue with the rest of the staff offering advice as we worked to make the connection. Time was going by so quickly, and we all felt such anxiousness thinking we might not be able to help. Fortunately, with zero time to spare, and literally with the click of a button, Tammy was able to log them on. Everyone breathed again.
Privacy is an important issue we adhere to at the library, but that day we couldn't help but to look over to watch this proud mom and dad sitting at the computer, watching a wonderful life event take place on a library computer screen. Their son received academic honors unbeknownst to them, and it was a lovely moment to witness.
Pure joy and pride radiated from that computer station. They were so grateful as they left the library and on her Facebook post she complimented the library staff: 'Thank you for being the best cheering squad we could ever hope to have the day our internet was out! Forever Grateful Parents We Will Be!”
And to the two of you we say; Forever grateful librarians we will be. You showed us the importance of making the best of a situation. It was a moment during COVID we will never forget.
