Axe Women Loggers of Maine to perform in Mt. Pleasant
Jul. 22, 2021 4:08 pm
When you want great old-fashioned family fun, the Axe Women Loggers of Maine show is where it’s at. The all-female team of Logging Sports athletes has world champion choppers, sawyers, logrollers, and axe throwers. Individuals in the group hold several world records and titles, and they will be performing at Waterworks Access and Campground southwest of Mt. Pleasant at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24. The campground is managed by the Henry County Conservation Department.
This free family event will be held at the campground’s boat ramp. Attendees are invited to bring a lawn chair or yard blanket.
From their website www.axewomen.com: "Alissa and Mike, owners of the Axe Women Loggers of Maine team, have been competing together in logging sports for several years. Along with their faithful hound Pete, they enjoy traveling and promoting their sport, as well as attending as many competitions as time allows between shows.
"Alissa is an IronJill, which means she chops, saws and logrolls. She has competed in New York at the World's Open Lumberjill Contest several times, winning the Peavey Log Rolling and Axe Throwing Championships. Alissa competed in the first ever STIHL Timbersports U.S. Women's Division Championships in 2017. On September 26, 2019, Alissa became the first person ever to logroll across the Mississippi River. One week later, she won her third World Championship, this time in the Jill & Jill Crosscut event, with fellow Axe Women teammate Andrea as her co-champion.“
