WINFIELD — Today, Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, Winfield attorney Becky Wilson announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for Henry County Attorney.
“Henry County needs change and transparency in the county attorney’s office,” said Wilson. “The County Attorney should be supporting law enforcement agencies within the county — currently, that relationship is broken, leaving officers unheard and unsupported. The top prosecutor in Henry County should be working to go after criminals, not local law enforcement.”
Wilson believes Darin Stater, the current county attorney, has lost the trust of Henry County voters — going after local law enforcement like a blue state prosecutor.
“Henry County deserves to be properly represented, to know what is happening in the office, and to know that their interests are being placed first within the County Attorney’s office. The citizens of Henry County are demanding honesty and transparency from our top prosecutor — They also deserve a prosecutor who is interested in what is happening in the county and available to citizens. I will restore these qualities to the Henry County Attorney’s Office, and will work for the interests of our community, not my own.”
Wilson, grew up in rural Iowa, was one of six children of a farmhand and a factory worker. She learned her work ethic from her hardworking parents and her first job was walking beans at 9 years old to earn enough money to buy clothes for school. Wilson graduated as Salutatorian of her high school class. She completed an associate degree at the age of 40, with a 4.0 in Legal Assistant Studies, before finishing her undergraduate at Iowa State, magna cum laude, and law school at Southern University School of Law, cum laude. Wilson passed the bar exam on her first attempt. Wilson has worked in personal injury, family law, criminal defense, wills and probate, and Juvenile Court in several counties and districts across the State of Iowa. Wilson looks forward to earning the support of the Republican primary voters on June 2nd.
