BENTONSPORT ? The Bentonsport Historic District opens up for the season Saturday, with activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Artist demonstrations and artisan bread samples will be at Iron and Lace. The Greef General Store will have homemade cookies and two $25 gift certificate drawings. Gems4Me will have new items to check out, and the Indian Artifact Museum will be open.
New for 2011 and located in Bentonsport?s Bank Building is Negative Space: Multimedia Fine Arts Studio, a working studio space producing artwork through multiple processes.
Printing woodcuts is an old art resonating in Europe and Asia, as a means of printing illustrations, sometimes with text. The ?negative space,? which is the space in art around and between the subjects of an image, is cut away to reveal the positive space that provides the image in the process.
Artists? works will be on display and sold from artists in residence and from independent artists, as well. Visitors can stop by the new studio during the open house to create and take home a piece of their own negative space.
