Minister Tim Widmer representing the Washington Mennonite Church provided the weekly chapel service to Halcyon House residents on Sunday, March 31, 2019. The sermon title was 'The Bible as a Life Guide.” Scripture from Psalms 119, Prov. 3:5-6 was shared with those in attendance. Halcyon House residents and community members had the opportunity last Tuesday evening to hear John Brinning, retired Federal Law Enforcement Agent, present information regarding his 40 years of experience with the United States Border Patrol. John was stationed at various locations throughout the country: California, Texas, Minnesota, Washington state and the Northeast region during his time working as a Federal Law Officer. Following John's program, many residents and community members asked questions regarding John's experiences and what his thoughts on what is needed to protect our borders were. Thank-you to John for such an informative and interesting program.
Wednesday, April 3, was a very special day for Halcyon House residents, friends and team members. Over 60 people were in attendance to enjoy four members of the Emelia Amper Band. The band, all the way from Sweden, is in the U.S. for a Midwest Folkefest Spring tour. Emilia Amper Band features her own music for nyckelharpa, vocals, string ensemble and percussion. The afternoon of beautiful music and conversation concluded with a wonderful array of refreshments for all. We thank them for sharing their talents and time with us. We wish them luck as they continue on their Midwest tour!
Halcyon House Wellness Department hosted their first round of free employee health screens for this year. Nearly 50 staff members were screened by a team of Unity Point health screeners.
