FAIRFIELD WOMEN?S CLUB
The May meeting of the Fairfield Women?s Club will be held Wednesday at the McElhinny House.
Lunch will be served at noon, followed by the program ?Presidential Convention Memorabilia: Republican and Democratic? given by Bonnie Thompson.
The business meeting will follow, with planning for the May 19 annual trash-and-treasure sale and plant sale. A cookie walk will be held as an added feature of the event.
Installation of officers for the coming year will conclude the afternoon.
Ulala Conger is the chairwoman for the meeting.
Guest and women interested in joining the Women?s Club are invited to attend. Membership fees of $20 are due now.

JEFFERSON COUNTY FARM BUREAU WOMEN
The Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women met for a noon luncheon May 1 at Johnny?s Place.
After lunch, the group moved to the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office for their meeting and program.
Shirley Stanley opened the meeting with a reading entitled ?If You Have An Apple.? Roll call was answered to ?History of Canada.? Thirteen members and one guest were present.
Carol Messer reported the ?Pennies for Friendship? fund totaled $13.85. Stanley reminded everyone that volunteers are still needed for the ?Ag In the Classroom? program during the Jefferson County Fair.
Zoe Moritz introduced Byron Rhoades, a specialist in beef programs, and Sparkey Wellman, a district director for the Iowa Cattleman?s Industry Council.
After viewing the ?Jamie Oliver? video, the group talked of the need to be better advocates for agriculture by emphasizing the benefits of eating beef and the need to repudiate the many myths surrounding the industry.
The next meeting will be in September, with details to be announced later.

OUR SPCIAL KIDS
MOUNT PLEASANT ? Our Special Kids - Southeast Iowa, a support group is for parents of children with special needs, will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 17 at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant.
The group meets the third Thursday of each month to share valuable, timely information as well as support and encouragement.
Judy Slobodnik and Barb Riley will discuss the Consumer Choices Option Program at the May 17 meeting. They will explain what CCO is, how to qualify, what services are offered and how to get started. A time of parent interaction and an exchange of information is planned. Refreshments and child supervision will be provided.

IOWA MASTER FARM HOMEMAKERS
Iowa Master Farm Homemakers Guild member Doris Johnson, accompanied by her daughter Dee Sandquist, both of Fairfield, attended the guild meeting April 14 in Ames.
The IMFH is an honorary organization that carries out a number of philanthropic activities throughout the year. The IMFH Guild annually recognizes a select number of women from those nominated for their contributions to family, farm groups, churches and community organizations.
Iowa membership meetings are held twice a year, and donations are collected for projects.
