Boots in the Barn: Beef Cattle Management for Women has kicked-off for Keokuk and Washington counties. This is a premier educational opportunity for cattlewomen in Iowa and has been made possible for our area from the sponsorship and support of Libertyville Savings Bank. Boots in the Barn is a 4-week program being held at the Libertyville Savings Bank in Keota on Thursday evenings this January.
The group has completed two of the four courses covering topics of Farm Management and Calving Management. In week 1, participants were able to speak with Iowa State University Farm Financial Management Specialists, Ryan Drollette, to learn about marketing and financial management, cash flows, and balance sheets. In week 2, ISU Veterinarian, Dr. Caityln Wiley, along with cow and calf models Caramel and Butterscotch, visited the group to discuss and practice hands-on calving situations.
'We are two classes into the ‘Boots in the Barn' program and it has been outstanding! There's nothing like a room full of female agriculture advocates! If you have the opportunity to participate in this program, I highly recommend it,” states participant Katelyn Hammen.
If you have interest in participating in a future 'Boots in the Barn,” program, contact the Washington County Extension Office at (319) 653-4811.
