The Brighton Community Garden was a dream for several years as the Brighton Horizons group worked to make it a reality. This summer it all came together and the community garden grew. Brighton Horizons would like to celebrate by inviting Brighton residents to a soup supper at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Brighton Community Center.
Two kinds of soup will be served made with produce from the garden as well as relishes and drinks. Everyone is invited and there is no charge to attend. Horizons will share the story of the garden and discuss plans for the future of the project.
One thing that made Brighton?s community garden unique is that some of the same produce was grown that the Brighton Canning Factory once processed and canned.
Upon hearing that Horizons was looking for garden space Lee Schafer offered a portion of his field. This field sits on one of the same blocks where the Schafer Canning Factory was located in the south end of Brighton.
