HARRISONBURG, Va. ? The Daily News-Record newspaper in Harrisonburg, Va., recently published a story about a tribute to the late Jason Marner, the son of Stan and Joann Marner of Brighton.
Jason died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on July 1. He had just graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg.
University students planted an oak tree in his honor. More than 100 people gathered for a 30-minute service and tree planting including his parents. They made the 900-mile trip to attend the service and to meet the people touched by their son?s life.
Stan Marner said that planting an oak tree in Jason?s memory was appropriate because Jason was very grounded in his faith. He also said the oak tree signified the way Jason lived his life.
