Thirty-seven members of the Gene and Barbara Booth family gathered at their home on Nov. 26 for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. Thirteen of them arrived Thanksgiving evening to enjoy the long weekend. They arrived from Burlington, Davenport, Des Moines, Iowa City, Waterloo, and North Liberty in Iowa; Nebraska City and Omaha in Nebraska; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Columbia, Kansas City, Kirksville and Maryville in Missouri. Only five relatives were unable to attend.
Ginny Brinton spent Nov. 17-25 at the home of her brother Fritz and Nancy Gowey in Milan, Illinois. She attended the wedding of the Goweys? son on Nov. 19. They were joined on Thanksgiving Day by all of the Gowey family.
On Nov. 27, Ginny Brinton attended a Thanksgiving celebration with her niece, Lee Ann Myers of Pleasant Plain. It was held at the home of Lee Ann?s son Chris in Ottumwa. Also present were Lee Ann?s three sons of Fairfield, and her brother Pat and Sandy Hoestra of Oxford.
The Krony Krew Club met Nov. 30 at the home of Ginny Brinton. Bridge was played at one table.
An early Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration was held Oct. 29 at the home of Susan and Ed Griggs in Dublin. Her mother, Shelby Emry of Brighton, attended with all of her children and grandchildren. Approximately 18 relatives arrived from Ainsworth, Brighton, Coralville, Grinnell, Jamesville, Kalona, Knoxville and North Liberty. The boys went hunting in the morning and had target practice by skeet shooting in the afternoon.
Dave and Dawn Messinger held a Thanksgiving celebration in their home on Thanksgiving Day. Those present included their daughter Jolene and Doug Erdman and family of Brighton; grandsons David Adler of Burlington, and Chris and Shelly Murray of Washington; and nephew Rick and Tammy and family of Kansas.
Pat Remington met her sister Kathy of Chariton, with friend Wayne, in Ottumwa on Thanksgiving Day. They enjoyed dining at the Sirloin Stockade.
Approximately 25 relatives gathered at the home of Gary and Peg Roberts on Thanksgiving Day.
Bob Shelangoski spent Thanksgiving Day at the home of his daughter Robin and Bob Schulty and family of Wellman. They were joined by Bob?s other daughter Roberta and Ryan Sieren and family of Keota.
On Nov. 26, Bob Shelangoski and Roberta and Ryan Sieren and family were guests of Bob?s son Joe Goodell for a Thanksgiving celebration.
Shelby Emry observed her birthday on Nov. 17. She celebrated it several times with her family. Her son Bob took her to Iowa City on Nov. 17. They enjoyed breakfast, shopping and lunch. That evening, all her children came in singing ?Happy Birthday.? They?d brought cake and ice cream. On Nov. 18, Shelby went to Burlington with her daughter Susan. They enjoyed shopping and dining at ?Big Muddy?s.?
Winifred Fritz enjoyed Thanksgiving evening with her son Joe and Lori and family.
Rosemary and Gerald Pacha hosted Thanksgiving for her five brothers and sisters and their extended families this past weekend. Those attending were from Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Dyersville and Muscatine in Iowa, as well as Wichita, Kansas; Pittsburg, Kansas; Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Indianapolis, Indiana. They had fun visiting, shopping, touring Lake Darling, and celebrating Thanksgiving dinner and an early Christmas.
Tim and Rita Berry with Megan of Bates City, Missouri, arrived at the home of her mother, Winifred Fritz, on Nov. 25. They arrived late that morning. Winifred?s son Tony joined them for the evening meal at Winifred?s home.
Winifred Fritz and all of her children, some of her grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren gathered the home of her son Charles and Debi of Sigourney, on Nov. 26. Tim and Rita with Megan attended church with Winifred on Nov. 27 before they returned home.
Shirley Schooley had a Thanksgiving Day/Christmas celebration at her home. Those present were the Monte Schooley family of Iowa City and the Marty Schooley family of Vernon Hills, Illinois. Also present was Marty?s sister-in-law, Katrina Bohm.
St. Joseph and Cabrini Altar and Rosary hosted an open house for Cecil Chuck?s birthday, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 26. The hall was decorated in her favorite color, and pictures and some of the newspaper writings she had published were on display. Cecil was known as the local historian and wrote for The Washington Evening Journal. Her writings were titled ?Chit, Chat, and Chuckles.? Cake and punch along with pretty mints and nuts were served. The cake and mints were also in her favorite color, lavender. A nice crowd was in attendance and enjoyed visiting with Cecil and wishing her a very happy 100th year.
