Chapter AQ, P.E.O., of Brighton, met at the McCreedy Home in Washington on May 5. Seventeen members answered roll call. Ruth Stacy, PCE chairman, presented Kirstin Smith with a $1,500 check for continuing education in the nursing program. Marcella Loeffler is the Chapter?s delegate to International Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October. Rosemary Pacha is the alternate delegate. Iowa State P.E.O. Convention plans were discussed, as Chapter AQ is one of the host chapters. Rosemary Pacha will provide a gift basket with items showcasing the Brighton community. Following the meeting, Shirley Schooley gave a short program honoring mothers. Refreshments were served by Phyllis Scheeler and Shirley Schooley. The next meeting will be held at the home of Marcella Loeffler with Cathy Rich as co-host, on May 19.
Enjoying the day of May 3 at the home of Winifred Fritz were her children, Joel and Mary Boatright, with Bridget Hollingsworth, of Fairfield and J.D. Hollingsworth of Packwood, and Tony Fritz of Brighton with friend Lynn of North Liberty.
Pat Remington of Brighton met her daughter, Angela Garmoe with James and Christopher of Mount Pleasant, in Olds on May 2. They dined at the Riverside Casino before going shopping in Iowa City. On May 3, Pat went to Ottumwa to have lunch with her sister, Kathy Babberl of Chariton.
Joel and Mary Boatright with Bridget Hollingsworth of Fairfield, and Mary?s mother, Winifred Fritz, went to Wever on May 2. They met Winifred?s brother, Herb and Sandy Moeller, and Sandy?s son, John Warner, of Wever. They enjoyed a tour of Tys Greenhouse located in Wever. Tys provides plants and flowers all over Iowa, including Washington, Fairfield and Des Moines. After returning to Winifred?s home, Joel filled her garden, while the gladiolus bulbs and strawberry plants were planted by Bridget and Winifred.
Celebrating Mother?s Day at the home of Winifred Fritz were her children, Tony Fritz of Brighton with friend Lynn of North Liberty, Lucy Dietzman with Malcolm and Brenden of Keosauqua, Greg and Deb Fritz of Fairfield, and Mary and Joel Boatright of Fairfield. Also present were Mary?s children, J.D. Hollingsworth of Packwood and Bridget Hollingsworth of Fairfield. Rita Berry of Bates City, Mo., telephoned her mother, Winifred.
Gerald and Rosemary Pacha celebrated Mother?s Day with their daughter and family, Jennifer and Brian Phillips, Aurora, and Ames, in Des Moines. They went to a Mother?s Day brunch at the Blank Park Zoo.
The Altar and Rosary Committee of St. Joseph and Cabrini Church met for its monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon, May 12. An excellent May breakfast was served Sunday, May 3. Graduation Sunday will be on May 17, to honor the senior students in the parish.
Krony Krew met on May 13 at the home of Shirley Schooley. Bridge was played at two tables. The club will meet again on May 27, at a location as yet undecided.
