Rita Berry with Megan, of Bates City, Mo., arrived Friday night, May 17, at the home of her mother, Winifred Fritz. Megan requested Grandma's homemade pizza for lunch on Saturday. They were joined that evening by Winifred's daughter Mary and Joel Boatright with Bridget Hollingsworth, of Fairfield. They celebrated Bridget's birthday. Rita prepared a lasagna meal, and Megan had baked an angel food cake.
Winfred Fritz, Rita Berry and Megan attended Mass at St. Joseph Church on May 19. They returned to Winifred's home and enjoyed playing board games.
Rosemary Pacha, of Brighton, and friend Jean Frazer, of Washington, spent the weekend of May 17 in Johnson. They were baby-sitting for Rosemary's daughter, Jennifer. Jennifer was in Orlando, Florida, attending a national nurses convention.
Pat Remington, of Brighton, with friend Nita, of Rubio, went to Ottumwa on May 17. They met Pat's sister Kathy of Chariton with friend Wayne, at Sonics.
Julia Fritz, daughter of Joe and Lori, of Brighton, and a friend celebrated their high school graduations with a party at The Barn, north of Fairfield, on May 19. Special guests were Julia's siblings Sophia and Michael and their grandma, Winifred Fritz, of Brighton. Serving the refreshments were Julia's aunts, Lucy Dietzman of Keosauqua, Rita Berry of Missouri, and Mary Boatright of Fairfield. Rita and Megan left Fairfield to return to Missouri. Winifred was driven home by daughter-in-law Lynn Fritz, of Brighton.
Jason Roberts attended an open house for the high school graduation of foreign exchange student Tommaso, of Italy. It was held on May 19 at the home of his sister, Jamie Roberts, in Wayland. Also present were family members from Brighton and Grand Island, Nebraska. Tommaso left May 21 for Italy.
Pat Remington met her daughter Brandy Poli, of Waukee, on May 22 in Oskaloosa. They enjoyed shopping, visiting and dining at Riverside II.
Around 15 people (from Brighton, Washington, Fairfield, and Wayland) attended a Celebrate Recovery meeting on May 23 at the Brighton Church of God. The evening included dinner; praise & worship music; a lesson on how essential it is for healing to admit one's sins and struggles, and to stop running from one's problems; and optional small group sharing.
The next weekly meeting, open to anyone with any hurt, habit or hangup, will be held Thursday, June 6, at the Brighton Church of God beginning at 6 p.m., with a free meal.
